Week 1

Our first week in Calder Class.

What a fantastic start to the year. The children have had lots of fun exploring their new classroom environment, learning our new routines and expectations, making new early friendships and getting to know their new teachers.

We enjoyed a visit from Harold the Giraffe where we learnt all about keeping our bodies healthy. In RE we looked why we are special and all brought in a special object from home.

We had our first PE lesson with Coach Becks where we practised our throwing and catching skills.

We also started learning our school expectations; Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe. We have thought about what these look like in our classroom and around school.

Mrs Lester, Mrs Lawton, Mrs Stott and Mrs Swan are incredibly proud of us all for our super start to the year.

Week 2

Calder have continued to settle in to life in Pre School and Reception. The highlight of the week has been our Bikeability sessions. We spent lots of time outside practising our cycling skills with Coach Sal. Coach Sal said we did really well and he was impressed with us.

This week in class we have been practising our cutting skills in the Creative area. We focussed on how to hold the scissors correctly, how to make snips in paper and how to carry our scissors safely.

Week 3

Week 3 in Calder class saw us start our Phonics learning – Reception with Mrs Lester and Preschool with Mrs Stott. We also started our maths lessons with Reception focussing on matching objects and Preschool looking at the vocabulary more than, fewer than and the same.

We looked our bodies and the different senses we use to experience the world around us.

In English our focus book was The Colour Monster goes to School.

Week 4

This week we enjoyed exploring some autumn objects and doing some cleaning in our Outdoor Area. In maths, Pre School were sorting animals into groups and Reception were sorting into sets. As part of our Understanding of the World, we looked at photos of us as babies. We were very good at guessing who the photos were of.

Week 5

This week in English our focus text has been The Colour Monster. We have thought about the different emotions and when we have felt these different emotions. We have been naming and labelling the different parts of our bodies. Everyone noticed how much it had rained this week and that the river was looking high (you couldn’t see the island) so we went out to investigate and to finish our week we got out the parachute.

Week 6

In Maths, Reception were looking at the numbers 1, 2 and 3 whilst Pre School began to learn all about patters. We went on a tour of of school and thought about how it is our school community, then we had a go at making a simple map of our classroom. Everyone has been working hard practising writing their names too.
