Welcome to Hodder Class

Our Year 1/2 class is a lively and engaging learning environment where children are encouraged to develop independence and a love of learning. We have a small amount of continuous provision and a range of challenges set up around the room to inspire curiosity and exploration. Phonics and spelling are taught in separate year groups using the Red Rose scheme, while all other subjects are taught together as a class. Our teaching approach includes a balance of adult-led, child-led, and independent activities, with a strong emphasis on promoting independence wherever possible.

Mrs Dugdale teaches the class from Monday to Wednesday, and Mrs Dickenson teaches on Thursday and Friday. They are supported by Miss Conchie, our class teaching assistant, and Mrs Cobden, who provides 1:1 support. We believe in a hands-on approach to learning and use Talk for Writing in English lessons to help children build their understanding of sentences and develop confidence in their writing.
