Welcome to Pre-School and Reception, otherwise known as Calder Class!

Calder class is the beginning of your amazing learning journey through Ribchester St Wilfrid’s. We aim to make your child feel welcome, safe, and cared for. We always encourage them to do their best.

My name is Mrs Cowgill, and I am the class teacher and have been teaching at Ribchester St Wilfrid’s since 2018. Mrs Stott is our class teaching assistant, who has many years of experience.

As we take your child through their first years of school, we look forward to helping them to grow and learn both in our inside and outside environment. Where possible, we love to use the local environment to extend our learning further.

We value play and provide a safe but challenging environment that supports and extends learning, independence and progression. Through our learning, we build our friendships, develop our communication skills, emotions and creativity, teamwork, imagination, knowledge and skills as well as problem solving. We have a wide range of resources and space to allow this learning to happen. We teach phonics daily to develop our reading and writing, which is enhanced through the classroom. Adults observe play before joining in, when invited, to help enhance the children’s learning further through conversations, discussions and interaction.
